Situated beside Loch Ewe, visitors staying at the Pentagon are ideally placed to enjoy the tremendous varied landscape of Wester Ross and to pursue the wide variety of leisure activities it has to offer.Walking

mountain, river or ridge - whatever type of walking you enjoy, you'll
find it within each reach.For the serious mountain walker, Torridon, Fisherfield Forest, An Teallach and the Fannichs are all only a short drive away.
While for lesser mortals, there is an excellent variety of interesting paths and tracks to explore, many of which are also accessible by mountain bike. There is even a church in a cave on a beach within 150 yards of the Pentagon!
Beaches
For beach
lovers, Wester
Ross has lots to offer. Just a mile down the road at
Firemore, there is
a
large, superb sandy beach, which is safe and gently sloping. Another favourite nearby with many of Pentagon visitors is at Mellon Udrigle.
And there are many others locally to choose from including Gairloch, Red Point and Gruinard Bay.
Wildlife
Few visitors will depart without seeing a seal staring at them from the sea. The lucky ones may see an otter or a stag or one of the many local birds of prey. Whales and porpoises are also regularly sighted. And then there are the sheep.....Sailing
Loch Ewe provides excellent sheltered sailing and anchorage. The nearest sailing club is in Gairloch.Fishing
Excellent fishing is available, on the inland lochs, rivers and streams as well as the sea. Details are available locally.Local Attractions
Inverewe Gardens
These world famous gardens at Poolewe are a must for every visitor. Owned by the National Trust for Scotland, the sub-tropical gardens have a wide collection of rare plants from all around the world.
Historic
Sites
In Gairloch Museum, there is a broad
collection of local historical material which includes many items from
World War 2.During that period, Loch Ewe was the main gathering point for the North Atlantic and Baltic convoys.
There are many fascinating WWII sites to visit in the area, including the crash site of a USAAF Liberator at Fairy Lochs, now a war memorial.
