Useful Resources for Pentagon Visitors

The information and links on this page is designed to help you get the most from your stay at the Pentagon and to enjoy the delights of Wester Ross.

Weather - sorry we can't organise it, however this is the best site we know for mountain weather forecasts. The North West Highlands forecast is updated daily late afternoon.

Tides - Predictions for Ullapool for the next 28 days, courtesy of the Proudman Oceanographic Lab in Liverpool. (Gruinard beach almost disappears at high tide!)

Maps -  Depending upon the level of detail required, we find these are the best local OS maps.

Walking Books - There are an ever growing number of books covering both the usual and the less frequented areas in Wester Ross. The first two (Richard Gilbert's and the "Northern Highlands" pocket guide) are our personal favourites, providing a good diverse selection of walks. The SMC North-West Highlands Hill Walkers Guide gives thorough coverage of the region, while Chris Townsend's book mainly covers the more popular walks.
